-
The Duquesne Brewery on S. 21st St., including the clock sign.
-
Lower on same building of the Duquesne Brewery on S. 21st St.,
Mary St. in the background between the buildings, visible where
the siding turned the corner.
-
More of the Duquesne Brewery on S. 21st St., looking toward
Mary St. and the former PRR Monongahela Division (Pittsburgh,
Virginia and Charleston). The new building in the first 2 shots
is in the foreground, the older in the background.
-
Closer to the former PRR Monongahela Division (Pittsburgh,
Virginia and Charleston) on S. 21st.
-
A different perspective of the new building from S. 21st.
-
Looking down Mary St. between the buildings.
-
Another shot of the old building. Note the addition on the top of
the "Brew House" portion.
-
Looking from 23rd and Mary toward 21st. All buildings are former
Duquesne Brewing Co. Note the rail in the street on the left.
-
Same location as above, but looking toward the southwest instead
of the west. Both rails visible this time.
-
Same location as above, but looking toward the south at the
former PRR line.
-
Looking south on S. 21st (at Sidney St.); The traffic signal in
the left-center is at Carson, and the ex-PRR Monongahela Division
crosses on the bridge in the distance. A double-track Pittsburgh
Railways streetcar line crossed at Carson.
-
Looking north from the same corner.
-
Rails still in the street at S. 21st and Wharton?
-
Looking south of S. 21st, and there's a train passing!
-
Just west of S. 21st on Jane.
-
Marshall Brothers Elevator Manufacturers on the southwest corner
of S. 21st and Mary.
Another shot of same.
-
The alley between Mary and Jane Sts west of S. 21st. Duquesne
Brewery "new building" is on the right. The building 3 shots earlier
is on the left.
-
The small building in the triangle cut off by the siding turning
from S. 21st to Mary; The new Duquesne Brewery building is behind
and to the left of the photographer. That's South Side Hospital
on the right. Again, a train on the ex-PRR, this time a Norfolk
Southern loco.
-
Looking down Mary from S. 21st. The curved strip of asphalt just
to the right of the top of the windshield of the car in the
left foreground was where the siding emerged from between the small
building and the new building. The bridge carries a conveyor from
the old Duquesne Brewing building (right) to the new one (left).
The old building is currently being used by some artists as lofts
and such, hence the art hanging from the bridge. I think I smelled
some welding going on this day as well.
-
Some sort of loading platform over Mary St from the old building
(with a van under it) and a newer building behind the original
Duquesne Brewery.
-
More of the newer building behind the original brewery, and an
office-looking building in the next block (past 22nd).
Note the rails curving away to the left foreground, to a set of
sidings behind the "new building". More on that below.
-
On this day someone was working, but those look like bumping
blocks near the back. Note the rails in the street: more than
one track turned back in here. The immensity of the new building
can be seen better in this northwest-facing photo from Mary St.
between S. 22nd and S. 21st...
-
...but this picture gives the full effect.
Note the rail in the street again.
-
Looking north on S. 22nd from Mary.
-
East on Mary from S. 22nd.
-
East face of the building behind the original brewery, facing
S. 22nd between Mary and the Mon Division.
-
Looks like there are still rails buried here too.
-
Different perspective of the new building, the siding, and
the conveyor.
-
S. 21st St. view of the upper portion of the new building.
-
Rails at S. 23rd on south side of Mary.
-
S. 23rd looking southeast from Mary.
-
Jane and "Steve Seventy Way", looking east, along the ex-PRR
embankment. Norfolk Southern truck looks confused, my wife sitting
in her car idling at right. "Steve Seventy Way" is at about S. 31st
if I recall correctly.
-
Looking north from same corner.
-
Another shot down the embankment, no N-S truck this time.
-
This would be the "To PRR Yard Office" sign in the concrete,
if my wife's car had no rear-view mirror. Sorry.
-
Homestead, PA PRR station, renovated! Looking west, ex-PRR at left,
ex-P&LE at right, Homestead High-Level Bridge behind.
-
Looking west-southwest.
-
Looking west-northwest, at the front of the station. Not bad
considering this is the last shot I took before sending my
injured camera off for service!
-
Looking north at the south face of the brewery.
-
Another shot looking north at the south face of the brewery.
-
Looking north at the south face of the brewery, and down South 21st
toward Carson.

Looking toward the eastern part of the South Side
